Chiang Mai remains one of the easiest cities in Asia for settling into a productive routine. The old city, Nimmanhaemin area, cafes, markets, modern conveniences, and surrounding mountains create a useful balance. You can work in a polished coffee shop in the morning, walk past centuries-old temples in the afternoon, and plan a weekend around Doi Suthep or Doi Inthanon.

Las Palmas puts a real working city beside one of Europe's most appealing urban beaches. The official island tourism guide describes Las Canteras as a three-kilometer stretch of golden sand with a promenade, restaurants, bars, hotels, and year-round use. That means a swim, surf session, or long walk can fit around the workday without requiring a resort transfer.
The city wins this category because the beach is part of ordinary life rather than a weekend escape. Gran Canaria also has a developed coworking and coliving network, a temperate climate, and direct air connections to many Spanish and European cities.
As part of Spain, the city also sits inside an established legal and infrastructure framework. Taipei makes complicated city life feel remarkably navigable. Its metro, rail connections, compact neighborhoods, late-opening food options, and abundant convenience stores reduce the small frictions that can drain energy during a working stay. The official Taipei tourism site notes that the Airport MRT connects Terminal 1 with Taipei Main Station in about 35 minutes on the express service, with free 4G Wi-Fi at all stations.
The city wins the high-speed category because the entire day can move efficiently. A morning call in a quiet apartment, lunch at a neighborhood noodle shop, an afternoon meeting across town, and an evening hike or night-market visit can coexist without elaborate planning.
For eligible skilled professionals, Taiwan's Employment Gold Card combines an open work permit, residence permit, and visa, with validity options of up to three years. It is not a general digital nomad pass, so applicants should use the official qualification checker rather than assume eligibility.
Know before you go: summers are hot and humid, and typhoons can disrupt plans. Apartment size, building age, and sound insulation also vary significantly by neighborhood.

4. Best culture and nightlife base: Buenos Aires, Argentina

Best for: sociable nomads who want their time outside work to feel as substantial as their workday.
Buenos Aires offers the scale and creative energy of a major capital, but its most rewarding routines can be deeply neighborhood-based. Palermo, Villa Crespo, San Telmo, Recoleta, and Chacarita each support a different mix of cafes, restaurants, galleries, parks, music, and late-night conversation.
The city wins this category because culture is not confined to a checklist of landmarks. Bookshops stay relevant, dinner begins late, theaters and live music are part of normal urban life, and cafe tables invite long conversations. The city government has also run a Digital Nomads BA initiative and describes the capital's cultural offer, entrepreneurial ecosystem, time zone, and quality of life as strengths for remote workers.
Public transport covers the city through buses and six subway lines, according to the official visitor guide. For longer stays, verify Argentina's current immigration category directly with the national migration authority before booking a nonrefundable rental.

5. Best mountain-access city: Tbilisi, Georgia

Tbilisi is built for visual contrast. Old wooden balconies, sulfur baths, contemporary restaurants, rugged hillsides, and ambitious new spaces sit close together. Georgia's official tourism site highlights Old Tbilisi, the Mtatsminda funicular, cafes, nightlife, and viewpoints that open across the capital.
The city wins the mountain-access category because elevation is already part of daily life. Mtatsminda rises above the center, while longer trips can lead toward mountain regions and trailheads elsewhere in Georgia. It works well for travelers who want a city base but do not want nature to feel remote from it.
Georgia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs maintains the official entry, visa-free travel, and e-visa information. Rules depend on nationality and purpose, so use that portal as the source of truth before planning a long stay.
Know before you go: steep streets, variable sidewalks, traffic, and older buildings can affect accessibility and everyday comfort. Confirm heating, cooling, desk setup, and internet reliability with an accommodation host rather than relying on listing language alone.
